Young Men In Harmony

Get ready to have the time of your life!

Barbershop is a fantastic sound, especially when YOU are singing it. We have a million ways for you to pick up this hobby with three or more of your friends.

We will come to your school and give a demonstration, then arrange for getting music for you, and we will provide coaching in or after school.

On November 5 and November 12 , we started a Youth Chorus to participate in the Mid-winter Convention of the Barbershop Harmony Society in Pasadena on January 31, 2009. This is the Marcsmen from San Marcos, TX, who won the Youth Chorus competition in San Antonio, TX in January 2008. View the mass sing of the competitors. See how one competitor, Oshkosh West HS, gets it together.

Please note: Rehearsals and attendance will alternate between north, central and south county venues to minimize driving distance. The next meeting will be at Patrick Henry High School at 7PM on December 4 and then at Poway High School at 7PM on December 10. Poway High School entrance is on Titan Way into the "N" quad (see site map). Stay tuned for details on additional locations on alternate weeks.

Transportation and lodging for the Festival will be provided.

The Mid-winter Convention includes a Seniors Quartet contest and a show of champions, which features the champion men's chorus, the top five men's quartets and the collegiate champions, the Ringmasters from Sweden. The Ringmasters will be visiting San Diego from January 21 to 24.

Register now for the 9th Annual SCVA-sponsored Young Men's Harmony Festival at Costa Mesa College in Orange County on February 21, 2009. This event attracts over 250 high school students each year. Free bus transportation will be provided for San Diego County students. Early registration is strongly encouraged to get a spot. Contact us for bus info after you register.

There will be a High School Quartet contest at the Far Western District Spring Convention in Las Vegas on March 21, 2009. Keep your eyes peeled for this event on the FWD web site. This convention also features the best adult quartets in the southwestern states. Transportation and lodging will be provided. Let us know if you want to go. These guys did it.

There is an International College Quartet Contest (ICQC) each summer with qualification rounds in the spring. Watch the Musical Island Boys who won in 2006 and visited San Diego in January 2007. The Ringmasters from Sweden won in 2008 and will visit San Diego from January 21 to 24, 2009. Other college quartets have links on the ICQC site.
